There's Still Work to Do

The temperatures may be cooler and the pool may be closed for the winter but that doesn’t mean you should neglect it. Being a good pool owner doesn’t end when fall starts and start back up when spring arrives, it’s a full-time job. Water and Pool Solutions has tips to keep your pool maintained this winter season while your pool is closed to make it more efficient and easier to open your pool in the spring.
First, add a mid-winter algaecide. Some products will last around 90 days which is about the time you will reopen your pool and will keep your pool clean of the green stuff. You should also add some chlorine to your pool now to ensure a clean pool opening.

Next, keep your pool cover clean during the winter season. Pool covers are great as they keep debris, wildlife and even children out of the pool but it is still important to keep them clean. To clean off the pool cover simply hose off all the leaves, twigs and other debris on a regular basis. Also, make sure you regularly check that your safety cover is always properly fitted.
Thirdly, pay attention to the weather. If it has been a mild winter, it’s a good idea to add more chlorine and algaecide. You can also an enzyme chemical to break down any contamination that finds its way to the pool, such as bird droppings and pollen.

Do you have an above ground pool?

Keep an eye on it to ensure it stays in good condition during the off-season. Make sure the cover is tight, if it loosens up it could start to slip into the pool. Also, check the water level in the pool every month to make sure you don’t notice any possible leaks.
