The Salt Life

So maybe you have just decided to put in a swimming pool or maybe you are tired of hassling with constant upkeep of your chlorinated pool and you want to make a change. You may have even tossed around the idea of putting in a salt chlorination system. But you still have questions. What exactly is a salt chlorination system and how can you benefit from it?
What exactly is salt chlorination and how is it different from regular chlorine?
The chlorine in a salt-water pool comes from the salt as it is dissolved by the salt system. In a regular chlorinated pool the chlorine comes from chemicals. Salt chlorination is a natural and more convenient way to sanitize your pool to the traditionally used chlorine chemicals. At Water & Pool Solutions, we use Hayward Salt Chlorination’s patented salt systems, the top leading salt systems in North America.
What are the benefits of a salt chlorination system?
Hayward’s salt systems deliver the 3C’s with each system, comfort, convenience and cost. Traditional chlorine can be harsh and cause irritation to the skin, eyes and hair. A salt-water pool will leave skin and hair feeling soft and red eyes will be a thing of the past. With a salt chlorination system the harsh smell of chlorine is eliminated.
A salt-water system offers convenience by reducing the number of times the water must be tested and chemicals adjusted. Gone are the days of lugging around heavy bottles and jugs of chlorine. Salt chlorinators continuously chlorinate your pool automatically. Also, salt is not evaporated so replenishing of the salt is only needed once or twice a year.
Salt chlorination can save you money in the long run, as much as 50% or more off the cost of chlorine. And because chlorine is converted back to salt after use, it can be used again to make chlorine.
That sounds great, but are there any cons to installing a salt chlorination system?
A salt chlorination system has a higher upfront cost, between $400-$1,000, but the payout in the long run is worth it, saving customers more than 50% the cost of chlorine. Chlorine pools are cheaper at the onset but are harder to take care of and maintain. Chlorine pools take maintenance while salt chlorinated pools offer a little more money up front. Also, most of Hayward’s salt systems offer a 3-year warranty on parts and a 1-year warranty on labor.

Is your pool liner looking a little worn or cracked down? A vinyl liner lasts between 10 & 15 years, however, several environmental changing factors can affect its lifespan. These rips & tears lead to leaks. Living in an area susceptible to groundwater issues can minimize the liner’s life. Plus, liner designed with incorrect specifications will also cause premature wear & tear. So, these are signs your pool needs a new liner.

Pool owners in Alabama frequently associate closing their pools with installing a pool cover. While this is important, there is a lot more to closing your pool during the off-season. Pool pipes are one of the most crucial pool components that are often overlooked in the winterizing process. Many pool owners are seen bickering about their broken pipes when the swim season arrives rather than enjoying inside their poo

Everyone knows that when water freezes, it expands. Unfortunately, this phenomenon can damage your pool. The cold temperatures in Alabama can damage your pool and pool equipment unless you winterize or close it during the off-season. Pumps, filters, heaters, and pipes are particularly vulnerable to freeze damage.

Are you sad to see summer come to an end? We understand. After all, what could be better than lounging in the pool with a drink in your hand? Even though you will have to close your pool, winters in Alabama do not have to be boring! Keep in mind that you also have a hot tub. The winter months are ideal for relaxing in the hot tub’s steaming water. But, before we get to the fun part, there is some cleaning to do. You must open your hot tub for the spa season for it to function correctly.

If you have invested in a hot tub, you will do everything to enhance its durability. The good thing is that keeping your hot tub in good shape is pretty simple. All you have to do is invest a smidge of your time for the optimum functioning of your hot tub. That said, no matter how protected your hot tub is, it might run into a few issues, just like any other appliance.
