Hot Tub Repair Checklist

If you have invested in a hot tub, you will do everything to enhance its durability. The good thing is that keeping your hot tub in good shape is pretty simple. All you have to do is invest a smidge of your time for the optimum functioning of your hot tub. That said, no matter how protected your hot tub is, it might run into a few issues, just like any other appliance.

If you live in Prattville, AL, or anywhere else in the Montgomery Metropolitan Area, and are facing some hot tub issues lately, here is a hot tub repair checklist that might come in handy:

Check the Water Chemistry

Your tub’s water chemistry matters the most; if any of the chemicals are imbalanced, it can have tangible impacts on the tub. For instance, if the pH level of the water is low, it can cause the metal parts of your tub to corrode. And if it is high, it can cause the plastic and rubber parts to harden. To avoid this, test the water once a week as that can be the reason for many problems. Check for the pH level, chlorine, alkalinity, and calcium hardness. Here are the ideal chemical levels:

  • pH: 7.2-7.6
  • Chlorine: 1-3 ppm
  • Alkalinity: 125-150 ppm
  • Calcium hardness: 100-200 ppm

Look for Leaks

Leaks are another common problem that many hot tub owners have to deal with. From pump and plumbing to filters and fixtures, all components of your hot tub are susceptible to pool leaks. Check the pump first, as it is the most common location of leaks. If not your pump, then there could be an issue with your heater. If there is a leak in the heater, you would have to get it replaced. Subsequently, examine the valves, connections, and spa shell (though spa shells rarely have leakage problems).

Review the Power Setup

Before you call the professionals, examine if the tub is getting sufficient power. Your hot tub will not turn on because of one of these issues: tripped breaker or GFCI, faulty wiring, blown fuse, bad panel, bad transformer, or tripped high limits switch. But whenever you are checking, make sure that the electricity is off.

Check the Condition of the Filter

Filter plays a crucial role in the operation of your hot tub, and if it is faulty, it can cause major issues. If your filter is soiled, it can knock out the heat or even reduce the flow. In fact, soiled filters are the most common area of problem when it comes to hot tubs. They can completely ruin your hot tub experience.

Test the Cover

Though you can use your hot tub for up to 4-5 years, UV rays and debris can degrade their quality pretty quickly. Over time, they also become saturated with water and get heavier. Also, note that if you have a heavy hot tub cover, you won’t be able to fully leverage your hot tub. So, get your covers replaced if you cannot open them with two fingers anymore.
