Staying Compliant – Part II

When servicing an existing pool, Water & Pool Solutions, Inc. can ensure that it is safe and accessible for any swimmer by providing and installing equipment upgrades so you are in compliance.  In addition to pools being ADA Compliant, they must also be VGB Compliant. The Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool & Spa Safety Act requires all public pools and spas to have specific types of drain covers in addition to other features for the protection and safety of swimmers. Water & Pool Solutions, Inc. can make sure any commercial pool has up-to-date pumps and main drains so that it is VGB compliant.

In 2002, the granddaughter of former Secretary of State, James Baker III, died after a spa drain entrapped her under the water. The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act was passed to enhance the safety of public and private pools and spas, to reduce the number of child drowning’s, to reduce the number of suction entrapment incidents, injuries and deaths and to educate the public on the constant supervision of children in and around water.

Pools that were made compliant when the VGB Act was passed are now due for replacement of their drain covers and the Health Department will check for paperwork to show dates of installation this spring. The VGB Act states “all public pools and spas, both new and existing, shall be equipped with drain covers compliant with ASME/ANSI A.112.19.8 2007 standard.” Essentially, the drain covers will shut off if it senses entrapment. Water & Pool Solutions can ensure that your pool meets these standards.

Don’t forget that in addition to making your pool VGB compliant, Water & Pool Solutions provides numerous services including repairs, maintenance and equipment upgrades. This winter as you are enjoying your hot tub, make sure to drain it down and clean it out during times of higher use to avoid skin irritation or excess build up of chloramines in the water.

Also, don’t wait until the last minute to make your repairs or schedule services for this spring and summer. Prices of pool products generally see an increase in price around February and March.
